August 24 is the Independence Day, the celebration of Ukrainian statehood. This is not just a State-foundation day. It is the memorable occasion of honoring the whole generations of our forefathers who have created the nation and struggled for the statehood. It is also a day when we should think about the future generations and about our responsibility for the history. In August of this year the historical calendar marks the 23rd anniversary of Ukrainian Independence.
These years were far from being easy and careless. The new difficult way of social-economic reforms had to be found and followed: new rules, living standards and state institutions were recreated.
The high historic mission which has been a dream of many ancestors’ generations about being the masters of our own motherland, cherishing and beautifying it befell on us.
The idea of state-independence revival has lived and paved its way from the dissolution of Kyivan Rus' until the 1991 when the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (the Ukrainian parliament) adopted the proclamation-act of Ukrainian Independence and All-Ukrainian referendum. The nation decided once for all: the Ukrainian state will exist!
We have got the historical chance to grow as a modern and respected nation. It is up to us to assign what our country will look like and how our children and grand-children will live.
On August 21 a historical “journey” named “We have the one and only state – sacred Ukraine which has never been invaded by anybody” took place at the library-chapter №11. The children listened curiously to the historic background of the holiday and glorious historical events, recited poems, sang songs about Ukraine and answered interesting quiz-questions.
In the library the book-exhibition “We are the children of yours, Ukraine” was got up. The participants of this event were the readers of our library – the pupils of the schools № 29, № 135 and № 47.
