Library № 22 - is one of the oldest libraries in Dhzerzhinsky CLS. It was founded in 1952. Since the very first day of its work, the library has become for its customers a second home where hearts and souls are warmed. During all these years, the staff of the library has been changing but the welcome, caring atmosphere towards the book and the readers has remained unchanged. The doors of our library are open for everyone, irrespective of their age, social status, nationality or religion.
In 2010, the library was redecorated and refurbished with new furniture. In 2011, in the affiliated library a new reading room was opened; 2 computers with the access to the Internet were installed; and now the readers can get necessary information for work and pleasure.
The affiliated library № 22 continues the tradition of carrying out the functions of a leisure and cultural centre. In our readers’ opinion, free and easy communication turns out to be very good for people. While getting information about new additions to the library, they, exchange their experiences, help other readers with advice and find like-minded people and friends.
At present, library № 22 serves yearly more than 2000 customers. There are two departments in the library: a cosy reading room and a circulating department. The universal fund of the library counts more than 19 thousand documents. More than 50% of the new additions to the library are books and magazines given to it as a gift by the readers and residents of the residential area. Everyone who loves reading will find here some literature to their taste. Here you will also find a great choice of classical and modern literature, as well as a fund of reference publications in different fields of knowledge for students and schoolchildren. The fund also has literature for children.
The library had close relations with Kharkov public and cultural organisations, with medical and educational institutions of the residential area, together with whom it holds public events.
Readers can never be bored in the library: we regularly hold parties, meetings with writers and poets and with creative people of Kharkov.
We also regularly hold arts and crafts exhibitions (patchwork, embroidery, ceramics, etc) where our readers display their workmanship.
On our readers’ initiative, in September 2014, the club called “The Interesting Meetings Club: Amongst Friends” was created. This club is a shelter for people whose age is measured not by their passport data, but by their good spirits and state of mind. The club has the body of active functionaries and its permanent members.
Thanks to the Club’s friendly and caring atmosphere of understanding and consideration, elderly people find warmth in socializing with each other.
